Annual Conference | Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals

Program Description

As Virginia's elementary school principals' signature annual conference, the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) is dedicated to ensuring that the mark of this conference addresses the following standards: instructional leadership; planning and assessment; communication & community relations; safety & organizational management for learning; and professionalism. In this light, VAESP Conference 2005 is pleased to announce this year's conference theme: "Cultivating New Leadership: What Will Be Your Legacy?". The VAESP recognizes that a focus on these benchmarks will continue to play a leading role in making education more responsive to the children of the Commonwealth. What challenges remain for educating the children of Virginia? How can school leaders incorporate these components in a manner that enhances the efforts to meet state and federal government performance standards? What direction are various education agencies, social agencies, and members of the general school community taking to bridge the efforts of the school and community to enhance teaching and learning that is applicable to the "real world"? The VAESP 2005 Conference examined these issues and many more at the Homestead on November 10-11, 2005.

The VAESP Conference 2005 featured the best national and local resources responsive to critical instructional leadership issues. VAESP strives to organize a high-quality program of resources that participants can take back for school based professional development and implementation. So that educators attending the conference had a firm understanding of the instructional leadership issues that enhances teaching and learning the VAESP Conference 2005 included presenters from K-8 schools, higher education, public service agencies, and the private sector who are responsible for furthering the quality and effectiveness of the education services provided to the students who attend our schools. Small-group sessions addressed strategic direction for success, hot buttons, lessons learned, present requirements as well as the needs of the future.

Presenter will share copies of presentations with attendees. The networking lunch format provides opportunities for attendees to meet and eat with presenters. This format allows opportunities for attendees to request other materials from the presenters or other attendees. This format also provides attendees with opportunities to share strategies that are research-based and proven to be effective in engaging teachers and students in mastering the state and national performance standards. Participants will have opportunities to interact with education suppliers and collect available materials for review and consideration.
