Breaking Ranks II | Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP)
Program Description
Participants may choose either two- or three-day training sessions. Two day sessions prepare participants to lead change within their buildings. Three day sessions enable participants to become a certified Breaking Ranks II trainer. Participants engage in a discussion and reflection of systemic reform to improve student performance through the recommendations in Breaking Ranks IIT: Strategies for Leading High School Reform. Participants may also receive 3 hours of graduate credit through Lynchburg College.

Program Goals and Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will learn how to:
- understand the recommendations in Breaking Ranks II.
- demonstrate an understanding of the strategies for implementing the recommendations.
- identify entry points to begin reform.
- develop an initial plan for implementing strategies.
Program Format
General session with large-group presentation. Participants also are involved in personal reflection, small group discussions, and think-pair-share activities.
Target Audience
High school principals and assistant principals and central office personnel responsible for high schools.
Self-Selection and/or Identification Through School Division
Yes/yes. Participants may self-select or be identified by the school division.
Duration of Program
Two- or three-day training with an option for graduate credit. After the training, participants may contact the VASSP Center for Educational Leadership at Lynchburg College (434.544.8444) or rjones@vassp.org for follow up assistance.
Outcomes Measured
Outcomes are measured by the school divisions that support the attendance of the participants.
Program Evaluation
Each participant completes a conference evaluation form providing feedback to VASSP for use in future conferences.
