Program Description

Depending on need or desired outcomes of the school division or individual school or group, more or less emphasis can be placed on such topics as:

Virginia Standard(s) Addressed

Planning & Assessment (ISLLC standard 3)
Instructional Leadership (ISLLC standard 1)
Communication and Community Relations (ISLLC standard 4)
Professionalism (ISLLC standard 5 & 6)

Program Goals and Objectives

By the end of this program participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with such groups as news media, staff, community groups and leaders, students, and/or parents.

Program Format

Presentations may be tailored to the needs of school divisions or specific staff, parent, and/or community group leaders. It may be adapted to large or small groups. Lecture and workshop (small group) techniques can be employed. Hands-on written and/or oral participation is essential.

Target Audience

Participation by School Board members, administrative staff, teachers, parents, and community leaders is encouraged. Groups may be diverse or exclusive.

Self-Selection and/or Identification Through School Division

Yes/yes. This program may be self-selected and used by individuals within the target audience for self-study after initial training of selected leaders in desired topics. This program is designed for groups or individuals identified through the school division.

Duration of Program

Variable from half-day to multi-session depending on need and desired outcomes.

Outcomes Measured

Understanding of effective school public relations and interpersonal relations; ability to communicate with various groups.
