Program Description
This program provides background on understanding human motivation, practice in communication skills for leaders, and how to implement a Five-step Problem Solving Model, which puts responsibility on the individual to solve his/her own problem. Participants will practice and then apply each skill within the Problem Solving Model.Virginia Standard(s) Addressed

By the end of this program, participants will be able to identify and apply specific communication skills; lead an individual to solve his/her own real-world problem; give and receive feedback on skills demonstrated. Leaders will also practice confronting an individual in a positive manner.Program Format
The program will open with an interactive exercise to answer "Why do people do what they do?" (understanding human motivation). Specific communication skills of attending, listening, asking open questions, clarifying, summarizing, and making feeling statements will then be practiced in triads. A Five Step Problem Solving Model will be introduced next, and communication skills will be applied within that framework. Lastly, participants will practice how to confront others in a positive way.Target Audience

One half-day session (3-4 hours). Can be customized to any leaders who are responsible for the performance of others, e.g., teachers who supervise a para-professional; child study chairs who lead the team, etc. Provider is also available for keynote presentations.
