Middle School Principal and Lead Teacher Special Education Workshop | Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) and the Virginia Department of Education
Program Description
This one-day institute provides middle school principals and special education lead teachers with information concerning the legal aspects of special education and NCLB as well as instructional strategies to improve the achievement of students with disabilities.

Program Goals and Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will learn how to:
- demonstrate inquiry about current trends and issues as they pertain to special education.
- apply skills in the area of special education to implement educational programs that meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- demonstrate an understanding of the legal forces that impact special education.
Program Format
Large group presentations with identified speakers associated with the Virginia Department of Education and VASSP.
Target Audience
High school principals and special education lead teachers.
Self-Selection and/or Identification Through School Division
Participants may self-select to attend or they may be identified by the school division to attend.
Duration of Program
One-day institute with large group sessions focusing on identified topics.
Outcomes Measured
Outcomes are measured by the school divisions that support the attendance of the participants.
Program Evaluation
Each participant completes a conference evaluation form providing feedback to VASSP for use in future conferences.
